What makes an adult evaluation different?

Adult assessment looks at current difficulties and earlier development. ADHD begins in childhood, even when it is first recognized much later. A clinician may ask about school experiences, work, relationships, and everyday responsibilities, and—with permission—seek information from someone who knows you well. Old records can help, but discuss missing records with your evaluator rather than deciding on your own that assessment is impossible.

Attention difficulties can also occur with sleep problems, anxiety, depression, stress, or other health concerns. The purpose is to consider relevant explanations, rather than assume a diagnosis from a checklist. NIMH: ADHD in adults

Start with the decision you need to make

Your questions may concern a longstanding pattern, a change in functioning, treatment planning, or documentation requested by a college or another organization. Tell the clinician what you hope to do with the results before arranging testing. The questions and intended use help determine the appropriate scope.

If documentation is your main concern, obtain the receiving organization's requirements first. An assessment report does not guarantee accommodations or eligibility. For students at Saddleback College, the DSPS office is a starting point for understanding available support and documentation procedures.

What to prepare for the intake

  • A few concrete examples of difficulties at work, home, school, or in relationships.
  • A rough timeline of when those difficulties began and how they have changed.
  • Any previous evaluation reports or school records you already have.
  • Questions you want the evaluation to answer and any documentation requirements.

Ask the practice how to provide records through its clinical intake process. You do not need to gather every possible document before asking whether the practice is a fit.

Your evaluation at BonPsy

Dr. Cindy John leads the clinical intake, individualized testing, interpretation, feedback, and written report. Dr. Colleen Long provides clinical-director consultation and quality review. Core testing takes place in Mission Viejo; intake and feedback are available by telehealth.

The clinician selects the assessment approach for your questions. Findings may support a diagnosis, identify other concerns, or suggest further evaluation. The goal is a clearer understanding and practical next steps.

Fees and next steps

A focused ADHD evaluation is $3,250. The $250 clinical intake is credited toward the evaluation total. If your questions call for a broader scope, the practice confirms the total fee before testing. BonPsy does not bill insurance; reimbursement depends on your plan. Review evaluation details and fees.

Use the free asynchronous introduction to ask about fit and the process. It does not provide a diagnosis or reserve an appointment. If you proceed, the next clinical step is a paid intake.
